World book day

World Book Day is on Thursday 6th March 2025. The focus is Read Your Way which calls on everyone to let go of pressure and expectations, giving children a choice and a chance, to enjoy reading.

The World Book Day Charity have developed six evidence-based principles that can be implemented easily by families to support children in adopting a life long habit of reading for pleasure:

  • being read to regularly
  • having books at home and at school
  • having a choice in what to read
  • finding time to read
  • having trusted help to find a book
  • making reading fun!

These principles sit at the heart of World Book Day 2025 and very much align with our VSF vision for every child to have a love of reading.

We have chosen to focus on the story

If I were Prime Minister by the author Trygve Skaug.

Through this fun picture book, we will encourage the children to dream big and look at the world with fresh eyes! The book treats profound topics with sensitivity and care and will introduce the themes of democracy, debate and citizenship, all through the eyes of a child.

This day will be a normal school uniform day but like the character in the story we would love children to wear their favourite pair of shoes, and bring a teddy and their favourite book to share!

Each school will enjoy a full day exploring the text and its themes in carefully selected and prepared activities.

At the end of the day your child will bring home a World Book Day voucher which can be used towards a new book at most book shops.

We are very much looking forward to celebrating books together and we hope all the children will have lots to tell you at the end of World Book Day 2025!
